How To Remove Nail Polish

Quick and Easy Ways to Remove Gel Nail Polish at Home

Hydrogen Peroxide and Hot Water Soak

Hydrogen peroxide is a common ingredient in many cosmetic and beauty products due to its lightening properties. It may also be effective in removing gel nail polish, but its use for this purpose remains controversial. Some sources recommend using a hydrogen peroxide and hot water soak, while others caution against its potential damage to nails and skin.

Rubbing Alcohol or Hand Sanitizer

According to experts, rubbing alcohol or hand sanitizer are effective alternatives to acetone-based removers for removing gel nail polish. Apply the alcohol or sanitizer to a cotton ball and rub it over the nail until the polish is dissolved.

Baking Soda

Baking soda is a versatile household item with abrasive properties that can help break down and buff away gel nail polish. Make a paste by mixing baking soda with a small amount of water and apply it to the nails. Allow it to sit for a few minutes before scrubbing it off with a soft toothbrush or nail brush.

Acetone-Soaked Cotton Ball Method

This method is the most effective but requires caution due to acetone's harsh nature. Soak cotton balls in acetone and place them on the nails. Wrap each nail in aluminum foil to prevent the acetone from evaporating. Wait for 10-15 minutes before wiping off the polish with a cotton ball or orange stick.

Growing Out and Clipping

If you prefer a less aggressive approach, you can let your gel nail polish grow out naturally and clip it off once a week. This method takes longer but is less damaging to your nails.

Toothpaste Method

Toothpaste contains mild abrasives that can help remove gel nail polish. Spread a small amount of toothpaste on each nail and scrape it off using a nail file or cuticle pusher. Repeat this process until the polish is removed.
