January 2024: Around 6,500 People Gathered in Solingen to Demonstrate
In January 2024, approximately 6,500 individuals took to the streets of Solingen to participate in a demonstration organized by the Bündnis Solingen ist Bunt statt Braun (Solingen is Colorful Instead of Brown Alliance). The alliance, which was founded in 2000 as the Bürgerinitiative Bunt statt braun e.V. (Citizen Initiative Colorful Instead of Brown), has grown to include 300 members and aims to promote diversity and combat right-wing extremism.
The demonstration was held in response to a series of events that have taken place in Solingen since the 1993 arson attack, in which two women aged 18 and 27 and three girls aged four, nine, and twelve were killed by neo-Nazis. The alliance's goal is to show that Solingen is a city that stands for democracy and diversity and will not tolerate hate or discrimination.
