C Spire Expands High-Speed Internet Access to Underserved Areas

C Spire, the leading provider of telecommunications services in Mississippi and Alabama, recently announced plans to invest more than $50 million to expand its high-speed fiber internet network to underserved areas in both states.

The investment will enable C Spire to extend its fiber network to more than 200,000 additional homes and businesses in rural and suburban areas that currently lack access to reliable high-speed internet.

"We are committed to providing high-quality internet access to all residents of Mississippi and Alabama, regardless of their location," said C Spire CEO Hu Meena. "This investment will help us bridge the digital divide and create new opportunities for economic growth and job creation in underserved communities."

The expansion project is expected to be completed by the end of 2023. C Spire will partner with local governments and community organizations to identify the areas most in need of high-speed internet and to facilitate the deployment of the new network.

C Spire is also exploring the use of innovative technologies, such as fixed wireless access (FWA), to provide high-speed internet to areas where traditional fiber deployment is not feasible. FWA uses cellular technology to deliver internet speeds of up to 1 gigabit per second, making it a viable option for rural and underserved areas.

The expansion project is part of C Spire's overall commitment to investing in the infrastructure and technology needed to drive economic growth and improve the quality of life in Mississippi and Alabama. The company has invested more than $2 billion in its network and technology over the past five years.
