Next Letter To The Transport Minister Gaeubahn Mayors No Cut Without An Alternative

Next letter to the transport minister: Gäubahn mayors: "No cut without an alternative"

Gäubahn mayors reject plans for electrification to be delayed until at least 2035 and demand an alternative solution

The mayors of the Gäubahn communities have sent a letter to Transport Minister Winfried Hermann (Greens) in which they reject the postponement of the electrification of the Gäubahn until at least 2035. They are demanding a faster implementation and an alternative solution in the interim.

In their letter, the mayors criticize the fact that the federal government's plans provide for the electrification of the Gäubahn to be postponed until at least 2035. This would mean that the Gäubahn would not be electrified for another 13 years.

The mayors argue that this delay is unacceptable. The Gäubahn is one of the most important railway lines in Baden-Württemberg and is used by around 20,000 passengers every day. The electrification of the line is urgently needed in order to improve the quality of service and to make the Gäubahn more attractive for passengers.

The mayors are also demanding an alternative solution in the interim. This could involve the use of bi-modal locomotives, which can run on both diesel and electricity. This would allow the Gäubahn to be operated with electric trains in the electrified sections and with diesel trains in the non-electrified sections.

The mayors have given the transport minister until the end of March to respond to their demands. If the minister does not respond by then, the mayors will consider further steps, such as legal action.
